Students: How to Study? Reading tips.2016

Thursday, 18 February 2016

Study: Studying may include doing homework, but it is also a lot more, as you will see.
I am going to give you some suggestions on how to study efficiently. They worked for me when I was in high school, college, and graduate school.

Not only that, but they worked equally well for me in humanities courses (like philosophy and literature) and in science courses (like math and computer science.
But, to the extent that everyone's learning style may be different, some of my suggestions may not work for you, at least not without some individual modifications.

Nevertheless, I urge you to try them. Most successful students use them (or some slight variation of them).

How to Study

1. Fixed Reading Hours
Have fixed hours for studies. Study during those hours every day. By this, the mind will get used to studying during those hours and it will become easy to concentrate.
2. Before Start Reading
Before commencing Studies, withdraw the mind from all sides.
3. Useless Talking
 Don’t talk while studying.
4. Posture
Sit Straight. Do not bend the side spine. An erect posture would increase the power of concentration of the mind. Many students tend to bend their heads and rest on their hands or the table. This is only an invitation to sleep and not to studies. Don’t read lying down on the bed.
5. Reading With Concentration
Don’t read superficially. Read carefully with concentration. Make notes and take down points of what you read.
6. Revising the Lessons
At the end of the day , spend a few minutes for stocktaking or revising the lessons learnt at schools or elsewhere. This helps in keeping fresh the ideas in mind.
7. Discussion With Co-Students

Discuss with your co- students. It is said that learning has four parts .first is the knowledge gained by the student’s own efforts. Thirdly, he or she gains by discussing with his/her colleagues and co-students. The fourth factor is time. In time, Knowledge matures.
